4 Tips For Healthy Eyes

Blog

As you age, you may become concerned with the quality of your eyesight. Many people find themselves having to wear glasses, especially when it comes to driving or reading when they become older even if they never needed glasses in the past. In order to avoid eyesight deterioration in the best way possible, consider the following four tips:

  1. Have Better Air Quality at Home: The best thing you can do is have a humidifier in your home that you can turn on when the air is dry. This is typical in the winter when you are running the heater. Dry air can easily cause your eyes to become irritated. You also want to be sure that you are regularly cleaning out the air filters so that no dirt and debris is circulated through the air in your home. On top of this, be sure to remove pet hair efficiently since pet dander often irritates the eyes. The best thing to do would be to use a lint roller, especially for removing hair on the couches and chairs in your home.
  2. Drink Coffee: Drinking one cup of coffee a day can actually help your eyesight because it keeps your eyes moist throughout the day. This is because caffeine produces tears, which keeps your eyes moist instead of dry.
  3. Take Computer Screen Breaks: If you work behind a computer screen, you need to be giving yourself a break every once in a while. The best way to do this is to take a break every 20 minutes. It doesn't have to be a long break, you should just look away from your screen for at least half a minute before returning to it again. Of course, you should also avoid being on your computer or tablet right before bed or utilizing it for a long period of time when you don't really need to.
  4. Protect Your Eyes from the Sun: Many people are on top of it when it comes to protecting their skin from the sun by using sunscreen, however, not many people take the same precautions for their eyes. The sun's harsh UV rays can be damaging to the eyes. It's best to wear sunglasses and also consider investing in eyeglasses that are UV protected if you spend a lot of time outdoors and currently need to wear prescription lenses.

When you consider these four tips for healthy eyes, you can definitely help to protect your eyes from eyesight deterioration for a long time to come. talk to your doctor, like Master Eye Associates, for more help.

Vision and Learning

Vision problems can be sneaky. When my daughter started having trouble in school, nobody thought that the problem could be with her vision. She wasn't complaining about not being able to see ; she was acting out instead. Plus, she could read the eye chart. It took a lot of trial and error to realize that while she could see, her eyes weren't working together correctly. She needed vision therapy to get herself back on track. I started this blog to share information with other concerned parents about how vision affects learning. Don't let a vision problem sneak by you and impact your child's education.
