What To Do About Your Dry And Itchy Eyes

Blog

Your eyes may be dry and itchy for a number of reasons. This can be very painful for you to deal with and can make you feel tired, or leave you with headaches. If you have itchy eyes or dryness in your eyes, there can be a few things you can do to help you. Read on for helpful information and tips to clear up this issue. If you are still having problems with your eyes, you should consult your optometrist for eye care.

Limit Screen Time

Screen time may be what is causing your dry eyes or itchiness. If you are staring at screens all day long, it can make your eyes tired. If you're staring, you aren't blinking, which means you aren't wetting your eyes as often as necessary. Take the time to look away from your screen and allow your eyes time to refocus on something else and to blink and moisten your eyes. You shouldn't stare at a screen for longer than 20 minutes at a time. Take a break for at least 20 seconds each time. Screens such as tablets, computers, cell phones, and even televisions can be causing these issues.

Moisten Your Eyes

Moisten your eyes using eye drops or re-wetting drops if you wear contact lenses. If your eyes aren't making enough natural tears and moistening your eyes naturally, you can use these types of drops to moisten your eyes throughout the day. If you are using these drops often, you could have a condition such as dry eye syndrome and should seek help from an optometrist for proper treatment.

Drink Water

If you aren't drinking enough water, you may not be able to create tears on your own because your body is lacking hydration. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Take A Break From Your Contacts

If you are a contact lens wearer, you may be giving your eyes this condition because your contact lenses are not allowing your eyes to get enough oxygen. Take a break from your contact lenses and wear your eyeglasses instead to give your eyes a break.

If you are experiencing dry or itchy eyes, you may be feeling a lot of pain in your eyes daily and could be experiencing other issues due to this as well. Make an eye appointment to have your eyes checked by your optometrist and to get proper treatment to heal your eyes.

Vision and Learning

Vision problems can be sneaky. When my daughter started having trouble in school, nobody thought that the problem could be with her vision. She wasn't complaining about not being able to see ; she was acting out instead. Plus, she could read the eye chart. It took a lot of trial and error to realize that while she could see, her eyes weren't working together correctly. She needed vision therapy to get herself back on track. I started this blog to share information with other concerned parents about how vision affects learning. Don't let a vision problem sneak by you and impact your child's education.
